Charles Collum Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Woodridge Memorial Park & Funeral Home - Lexington on Jan. 3, 2026.
Charles R Collum passed peacefully from this world and into the arms of God on December 31st, 2025. Born May 24th, 1957, in Jacksonville, NC, he was the youngest son of the late Harold S Collum and Constance Patten Collum. Ricky was many things to many people, but we all knew him as kind and generous, with a heart bigger than the world.

During his lifetime, he was able to successfully embrace two completely different careers. He was a Master Plumber for many years, working for most of the major mechanical contractors in the Columbia area, and future generations can expect to find his name carved into the pipes of several buildings in Columbia. He also forged a rewarding career with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, retiring in 2024, with big plans for travel and adventure.

Ricky loved his friends and family, loved riding his motorcycles, and loved the mountains and rivers of his home state, NC. He and his wife, Andrea, often took road trips on their motorcycles, loving the beauty nature has to offer. Ricky was known for his wicked sense of humor and had a grin that would disarm the hardest of hearts. He had an artistic side that made him an excellent woodworker, leatherworker, and musician. He loved playing his Ovation Balladeer guitar, often playing with friends when he was younger.

He adored animals and often brought little foundling puppies and kittens home, expanding his family to include many fur children over the 40 years of his and his wife's marriage. He loved spending time with family and friends and was a devoted husband, step-father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and son.

Mr. Collum is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Andrea Bacon Collum, his step-children, John (Lana) Price and Jennifer Abbuhl, grandchildren, Dylan Price, Ryan Abbuhl, Kaylin (Bradley) Montagna, and Chandler Abbuhl. He is also survived by his brother, Lloyd (Ann) Collum, His sisters, Constance Ruse, Deborah (Charles) Ostrander, his nephews, Alexander Ostrander and Sebastian Ostrander, his niece, Jennifer Ruse, and many extended family members who will all miss him dearly.

Andrea I am so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. We worked in the same department at SCDOT for many years. We had many many conversations about his pet kitties and dogs. Rick was such a wonderful person and I am keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
