Marvin Dennison Obituary

Visit the Cremation Society of Virginia Chesapeake Office website to view the full obituary.
Marvin Bruce Dennison, affectionately known as "Stretch," was born on June 8, 1956, in Columbia, South Carolina, and later grew up in Peekskill, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton B. Dennison and Cora Lee Dennison.

Marvin was the kind of man people truly enjoyed being around. He had an infectious smile, an easygoing spirit, and a heart for people. He never met a stranger-always ready with a conversation, a laugh, and a warm presence that made others feel seen. Even in moments of pain, Marvin rarely complained; instead, he continued to show up with grace, strength, and that smile everyone remembers. While Marvin was not a religious man, he had his own personal relationship with God-one reflected in his quiet strength and the kindness he consistently showed to others."
Marvin was the proud father of three daughters: Saadia N. White (husband Michael White), Atrice K. Dennison, and Shawnita Harrison (husband William Harrison). He also shared a lifelong partnership with Linda Williams.

He found pride and joy in his role as a grandfather to nine grandchildren: Zermond Q. Dennison, Zuri L. Turner, Mikayla R. Turner, Ja'Quail Dennison, Da'Mare Johnson, Javon Spruill, William Harrison, Alana Harrison, and Ashawna Harrison. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to two beautiful great-granddaughters, Aniyah Dennison and August Dennison.
Marvin honorably served his country in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. He later worked at Waterworks and Hampton University and he completed his professional journey at the VA Hospital, where he was well loved and respected.

Marvin enjoyed life in the simple, meaningful ways-especially through his love of reggae music and his passion as a die-hard Giants fan. Above all, he will be remembered for his kindness, charismatic personality, and the joy he brought to every room he entered.

Marvin is also survived by his extended family, including his brother-in-love Alonzo Williams, his sister-in-love Cheryl Williams, and his Niece Ciara Williams and his nephews Dermont Williams, Maurice Williams, DeCarlos Williams, Kordarryl Williams, Terry Williams, Travis Williams, Tremaine Williams and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

He also leaves to cherish his memory lifelong friends Tony "Bop," Eugene, Bernard, and Jack "Doc," his Goddaughter LaKisha and her father Sam who preceded him in death.
His memory will live on through every smile he inspired, every story he shared, and every heart he touched.

All services will be held at Northampton Community Center 1435 Todds Lane Hampton, VA 23666 on Friday February 27, 2026 from 11:00am – 3:00pm.
