Charles Connors Obituary

Charles J. "Chuck" Connors Sr., 87, of Delmont, formerly of Penn Hills, Murrysville and Acme, passed on to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, in UPMC East, Monroeville, surrounded by his loving family. Born Aug. 6, 1936, in Wilkinsburg, he was a son of the late John Patrick Connors and Margaret "Peg" (Weiss) Connors. Chuck was a graduate of Penn Hills High School, Class of 1954, and in 1963, received his bachelor of science in engineering mechanics from Penn State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Engineering Honor Society. Chuck worked for Owens-Illinois & J.W. Fecker for 14 years on the Kuiper airborne telescope program and other technical glass projects. He spent the next 36 years of his career as a principal engineer at Westinghouse Electro-mechanical division, leading significant projects in commercial nuclear and Navy nuclear applications. After retiring, he was brought back as a consultant, working on the SOFIA project, an updated airborne telescope program working in both California and Germany. Chuck was a member of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Murrysville. Chuck was an avid sports fan, and supported his children and grandchildren in their various athletic endeavors. He enjoyed golfing and traveling, and most loved being with his family. Chuck was an inspiration, with his hard-working nature, loyalty to family, and kindness to others, as qualities that will be remembered with fondness. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Mae (Connors) Connors, who passed away on Dec. 31, 2008; second wife, Donna Rae (Thackeray) Connors, who passed away on Dec. 23, 2016; brothers, John, Bill and Robert Connors; and his sisters, Mary Ellen Farrell and Betty Connelly. Chuck is survived by his sons, Charles J. (Natalie) Connors Jr., of Irwin, Michael S. Connors, of Red Lion and Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughters, Colleen M. (Bill) Gribbin, Christine L. (Chuck) Tragesser and Cathleen C. (David) White, all of Murrysville; grandchildren, Jacqueline and Joseph Gribbin, Chuckie, Caroline and Carly Tragesser, John and Katie White, and Charles J. Connors III; stepson, Norman (Marianna) Connors, of Natrona Heights; special friend, Donna Roscia, of Altoona; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a number of friends who will greatly miss him. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2023, in the HART FUNERAL HOME INC., 3103 Lillian Ave., Murrysville. Parting prayers of transfer will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Murrysville.
