Charles Michael "Mike" Cothran, age 74, beloved husband of Ann Beasley Cothran, and resident of Lewisburg, Tennessee, passed away on Monday morning, March 4, 2024, at Life Care Center in Columbia, after battling Parkinson's Disease.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Maury Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also be held on Thursday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on May 25, 1949, in Nashville, Tennessee, Mike was the son of the late John Alvin Cothran and the late Roberta Green Cothran. He was raised on a dairy farm in Triune, Tennessee, where he spent most of his life before moving to Chapel Hill, Tennessee. An avid outdoors enthusiast, Mike was actively involved in 4-H, Boy Scouts, FFA, and MYF in his younger years. At MTSU, he studied farrier science and later became an instructor. Over the span of forty-eight years, he skillfully shod horses in Tennessee, Alabama, Indiana, and Kentucky. For twenty-five years, he dedicated his summers to teaching foot care for horses at the Georgia 4-H horse camp. Mike also served as a farrier at various horse shows in Middle Tennessee and worked with the late Dr. DeWitt Owen to help lame horses become sound. He found solace in fishing along the bank of the Duck River on his property in Chapel Hill, Tennessee.
In addition to his wife, Ann, of fifty-two years, he is survived by his son, James Robert (Renea) Cothran, granddaughter, Audrey Chae (Chase) Bobier, brother, John Steven (Cheryl) Cothran, niece, Rebecca (Tim) Blair, nephews, Johnny (Jennifer) Cothran, Christopher (Caitlin) Fryer, Geoffrey (Stephanie) Fryer, Colin (Lauren) Rhoades, and numerous great nephews and nieces.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Bill Cothran, Mark Cothran, Lee Cothran, Dusty Rhoades, Bill Fryer, Johnny Cothran, and Chase Bobier. Honorary pallbearers will include, David Daniels, Mike Derryberry, Steve Edwards, Roy Slagle, Barry Caps, Billy Lampley, and Jerry Shively.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131 or Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
