Port Barre– A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Charles Daniels on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Fr. Clint Trahan will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow in the church mausoleum.
Charles, age 87, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Opelousas General Health System surrounded by his loving family.
Charles served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1953-1956, where he worked his way up to Sergeant in the artillery division. He was a dedicated member of the JC’s, Port Barre Booster Club, Yambilee Campers, NCHA, FCRV, American Legion, VFW and Port Barre Works District #3. In his early years he coached many activities including Flea Fly, Youth Football and Girls Softball; and a Statistician at PBHS for 62 years. Charles also enjoyed photography and woodworking. He created house plans and carpentry work. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially while camping. Charles will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Charles is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emma Stoute Daniels; daughter, Tammy Dugas (Ricky), Jody Schexnayder (John), Charlotte Stelly (Kim); brother, Eddie Israel (Mildred); 8 grandchildren, Charlie Fontenot (Mary Helen), Michelle Higdon (Rusty), Brandon Dugas (Chassidy), Logan Stelly (Marcy), Brennan Stelly, Peyton Vidrine (Tyler) and Danielle Schexnayder; 13 great-grandchildren, Andi Higdon, Leah Fontenot, Ross Higdon, Lane Dugas, Will Fontenot, Drew Higdon, Cara Fontenot, Addisyn Dugas, Callie Smith, Cy Stelly, John Parker Stelly, Piper Stelly and Emersyn Vidrine.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Dan Daniels and Andrea Marks; brother, Simon Israel; sisters, Norma Stelly, Lou Leininger and Betty Scruggins; granddaughter, Amy Schexnayder.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas . The rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Friday evening. Visitation will resume on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas .
Pallbearers will be Charlie Fontenot, Brandon Dugas, Logan Stelly, Brennan Stelly, Rusty Higdon and Tyler Vidrine.
