Charles W. DeLong, Sr.
Charles William DeLong., Sr, 99, formerly of Norwalk, died on Friday, October 18, 2024 at the Carolton in Fairfield. Born in Lewisboro, NY, son of the late William and Clara (Hendricks) DeLong, he was also predeceased by his wife Yvette (Labonte) DeLong and nine siblings: Gladys (DeLong) Ziegler, Harold Whaley, Edward DeLong, Margaret (DeLong) Booth, Viola Whaley, William Whaley, Edith (DeLong) Denny, Nellie (Whaley) Cerretani, and Dorothy (Whaley) Piatt.
After serving in the US Army during World War II, he worked as a mason and retired as the owner of Peden and DeLong Masonry. Charles was a member of the Bricklayers Association and VFW, and enjoyed his daily coffee outings with friends "The Luncheonette Gang" at Bagel King.
He is survived by a son and daughter, Charles W. DeLong, Jr, and his wife Sue of Norwalk, Karen Monroe of Anderson, SC; four loving grandchildren, Travis Monroe and his wife Megan, Justin Monroe and his wife Cuyler, Lauren DeLong and Megan DeLong and her husband Erich Eilenberger; seven cherished great-grandchildren: Molly, Reagan, Wesley and Ryder Monroe, Ellie DeLong, Addi DeLong and Mae DeBerg
His family will receive friends on Monday, Oct 28, from 5-7 p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Oct 29 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial with full military honors, at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
