LAWTON, OK: Graveside services for Charles Deleno Dorsey, 73, who died Monday September 8, 2025, at his resident in Lawton, OK, will be held at 11a.m, Saturday, September 20, at St. Luke Cemetery in Pattison, Ms with Rev. Jeremiah Lutch officiating with Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, from 1p.m. until 5 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home.
Charles Deleno Dorsey was born August 10, 1952, in Pattison, Mississippi, to Charlie Dorsey and Jewel Juanita Russell. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age being baptized into the Christian faith at St. Luke Christian Church in Pattison, Mississippi. On Monday, September 8, 2025, Charles departed his earthly body into eternal rest at his residence in Lawton,Oklahoma, he was 73. After graduating Addison High School, class of 1970, Charles decided to serve his country in the. United States Army, where he served for over 20 years, dedicating his life to honor, duty, and service. Following his military career, he continued to strive for excellence and earned an associate's degree. in criminal justice as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Science and Arts. He continued his service, working with youth at the Treasure Lake Department of Interior Job Corps in Lawton, Oklahoma and driving. buses for the Lawton Public School system for 20+ years.
Beyond his professional and military achievements, Charles found joy in life's simple pleasures. He. loved watching and playing sports, endless hours of dominos, motorcycle rides, fishing, and competing in martial arts. He enjoyed being part of the church community as a Sunday school teacher, brotherhood teacher, and usher at Union Baptist Church, Lawton, OK. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Charlie and Jewel Dorsey; two brothers, Willie Dorsey and Samuel Dorsey; and sister, Deloris Morgan.
Charles leaves to honor his memory, three children; two sons, Charles (Stephani) Dorsey II of Bloomington, MN and Donald Wayne of Tacoma, WA; one daughter, Cassandra Danielle Battle of Oklahoma City, OK; nine beloved grandchildren-Deandre, Deodrian, Tiandria Deashawn, Jayden, Keiyon, and Neiyonne, Cordell and Cooper; three sisters, Henrietta Porter and Patricia Payne both of
Port Gibson, MS and Charline Banks of Lawton, OK; one brother, Ronald Dorsey of
Port Gibson, MS; two uncles, Walter Dorsey of Crystal Springs, MS and Percy (PC) Hedrick of
Port Gibson, MS; three aunts, Sarah (John) Johnson of New Orleans, LA, Lucy Dorsey of Tulsa, OK, and Betha Lee Dorsey of
Port Gibson, MS. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a close friend, David McGriggs of
Port Gibson, MS.
Charles will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose strength, humor, and love left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Bold in life, strong in legacy, and forever remembered with love.
