Charles Ellison Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snowden Funeral Home - Rockville on Jan. 7, 2026.
Charles (Charlie) Ellison Jr., departed this earthly life peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at his residence in Germantown, MD. Charles was born on August 22, 1955, in Olney, MD. He was the son of the late Charles Ellison and Minerva Ellison.

Charles received his education in the Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) System and graduated from Sherwood High School in 1973. He worked at several jobs before he started working for the MCPS System (Roberto Clemente), where he served as Building Service Worker for over 28 years. He was a hard and dedicated worker and he took great pride in his work. He was respected for his work ethic.

Charles enjoyed life. He was kind-hearted, sensitive, passionate, and a very generous man. He lived a simple and straightforward life, appreciating all that he had. He was a faithful husband and a great provider making sure that his Queen (wife Sharon), had everything that she needed. He was a loving and caring person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Charles was also known for his affectionate smile towards everyone he met. He will surely be missed by all who came in contact with him.

Charles loved being at home and sharing time with his wife. He enjoyed listening to "oldies but goodies," and watching all the old westerns, especially the Andy Griffith show which kept him laughing all the time. He loved football and was a die-hard Washington Commanders fan. He loved hunting, fishing, playing cards and dominos.

Charles leaves to mourn yet to cherish his memories, his devoted wife, Sharon; one son, Jason Ellison; and one daughter, Kellie Lal; one grandson, Ajay Lal; three stepsons, Maurice Pope, Johnathan Lyles and Vernon Lyles; two step-grandsons, Johnathan Lyles Jr., and Shawn Powell; one step-granddaughter, Jasmine Lyles; one brother, John Ellison; eight sisters, Betty Marshall, Mildred Williams (Alan Sr.), Patty Ann Myers, Deborah Chaney (Chris), Mary and Gladys Adams, Shirley Davis (Andrew), Charlotte Selby (Gregory); one brother in-law, Jerry Lyles (Joyce); one sister in-law, Wanda Ricks; three aunts, Helena Walker, Edith Hackett and Louise Nickens; one godson, Clifton Budd, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He also leaves to mourn and cherish his memories, a devoted friend and colleague, Jeffrey Brown.

He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Ellison; one stepdaughter, Monica Wise; and three sisters, Rosemary Budd, Ruth Austin and Linda Gaither; brother in-law, Philip Lyles; in-laws, George and Margaret Lyles.

There will be no public viewing or service. Let us cherish his memories and remember how he impacted each one of us in this earthly life.

GONE TOO SOON

Words cannot describe the loss we feel

Saying farewell to you,

But heaven chose to give you wings

And now it's time you flew.

We wish that we could have more time,

That God had let you stay.

Forever would not be long enough

But we would take one day.

We wish we had just one more chance

To see that tender smile,

To laugh with you again my dear

Just for a little while.

Gone too soon, but not forgotten,

Forever you will remain,

Our guiding light, our shining star,

Until we see your face again.

Sleep on my dear husband, father, brother and friend.

We will miss you dearly, but we will see you again.

Although I did not know Charles personally, I had been an employee of Montgomery County Public Schools for many years. I know how much our dedicated billing service workers mean to our system. From what I´ve read, it sounds like he was above and beyond in his service.
I offer prayers and compassion to his family members who I know will miss him dearly. Although you must grieve, as you do, recall all the beautiful moments you had together where you talked and laughed, or maybe just sat in each other´s presence. Peace be with you forever more.
With love from a fellow, MCPS employee.

When my son was at Clemente, I often told Charles that I truly believed he would have a greater impact on many of those kids than any teacher ever could. It wasn´t something he tried to do; it was just who he was. The way he interacted with parents and kids, listened to them, and assisted others demonstrated how to treat people with respect and kindness. This time, I know exactly for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for all of us, because the world is a little less without him in it. RIP Sir.
