Charles Willis Ferrell, 94, of Ashland passed away on June 20, 2025, at Ashland Samaritan Hospital following an abbreviated illness.
Born on September 29, 1930, to William and Elsie Ferrell in Ravenswood, West Virginia, Charlie and his 12 siblings relocated to the West Salem area in his early youth. He called the Ashland area home for the remainder of his life.
A dear and gracious friend to many, Charlie maintained an infectious personality underpinned by a quick laugh and a keen desire to assist others.
Following a long and successful career owning a local hay and straw business, Charlie could often be found at a park or gymnasium watching a local sporting event, especially to support his beloved Northwestern Huskies. And when not watching or playing sports, he was often talking about a game.
Charlie took immense pride in his home, particularly his self-declared claim for having the greenest and best yard in town. He enjoyed working in his yard, either mowing on his John Deere tractor or cultivating his garden overflowing with tomatoes and cucumbers.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by brothers Kessel, William, Glen, Robert, Jack and Richard; sisters Florence, Marie, Elladene, Eloise, Mildred and Jean; and daughter Karen McClellan. He is survived by daughter Marilyn Ferrell.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends and family may visit on Tuesday evening, June 24, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
For those unable to attend, online condolences may be shared on the funeral home's website at denbowfh.com.
