Charles R Fisher

Charles R. (Chuck) Fisher,88, a devoted husband, loving father, and respected member of the community, passed away on February 10, 2024, in Abilene, Texas. Born to Guy and Mary Fisher on August 15, 1935, in Baltimore, Maryland, Chuck lived a life filled with dedication and selflessness.

From an early age, Chuck was known for his hard work and determination. After graduating from high school, he followed his ambition and joined the United States Air Force in 1956. His extraordinary commitment led him to serve for 20 years as an airplane mechanic. Chuck's expertise and resilience earned him numerous accolades during his military career. Notably, he received the Air Force Outstanding Unit award, Vietnam Services Medal, Republic of Vietnam Medal, National Defense Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Air Force Longevity Service Award.

During his time in the Air Force, Chuck met the love of his life, Norma. Their bond was strong right from the start. They married on June 4,1962, in Massachusetts and their love story flourished with each passing year.

After retiring from the military in 1976, Chuck continued to impact lives in a different capacity, this time working for the City of Abilene for another fruitful two decades. As an employee of the city for twenty years, he dedicated himself to providing excellent service to his fellow community members.

Chuck was widely regarded as a family-oriented man who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He had an unwavering love for his family and made sure they knew it every day. A source of constant joy and laughter to those around him, Chuck possessed a remarkable sense of humor that could light up any room.

Beyond his professional achievements and commitment to family life, Chuck had a range of hobbies and interests that added richness to his days. He found solace in reading books that transported him to different worlds and challenging his mind with crossword puzzles. Additionally, Chuck had a great passion for Nascar, and he often found himself immersed in the thrilling races.

Chuck was not just a man of professional accomplishments and hobbies; he actively engaged in his community and pursued interests close to his heart. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was active in Eastern Star. Through these organizations, he cultivated lasting relationships and contributed to making a positive impact on those around him. Furthermore, Chuck attended Wyndrock Missionary Baptist Church, where his faith provided him with comfort and guidance.

Preceding him in death are his parents; spouse, Norma E. Fisher; daughter, Claudia Oliphant; siblings, Guy Fisher Jr., Margie Sothen, and Beverly Fisher; grandchildren, Anita and Raquel.

Surviving him are his daughters, Maureen Fisher, and Alicia Detar and husband Larry; brother, Dan Fisher; grandchildren, Sarah, Ryan, Angela, Amanda, Dennis, Hollie, Tim, Dawn, Amber, Angel; many great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends will gather to honor Chuck at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel located at 5750 Hwy 277 South in Abilene, Texas. The visitation will take place on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service celebrating Chuck's life will be held at the same location on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 2:00 PM.
