I had the honor of being in Mr. Frock´s class at Cleveland Middle School in 1987. He was easily one of my favorite teachers.
He was short in stature but big in personality. He was funny, quick, and completely unafraid of any kid who walked into his classroom. He carried himself with confidence, and we all knew he was in charge, but he made learning fun.
Two memories always make me smile.
One year, the teachers performed a skit set to a song. I wish I could remember the name of it. In the song, a cool guy rides in on a motorcycle wearing a leather jacket. As the female teacher sang, Mr. Frock came rolling out on a Huffy bicycle wearing a leather jacket, playing the part with total confidence. The whole place erupted. It was hilarious, and he knew exactly how to steal the show.
Another time, a student named George put a tack on Mr. Frock´s chair, and he actually sat on it. He could have had the student suspended, but instead he handled it in a way none of us forgot. For three days, he personally walked that student to every single class. The kid had to hold onto Mr. Frock´s belt loop as he was escorted through the halls, then 45 minutes later it happened all over again. It was discipline with humor, and it made the point without destroying the kid.
He wasn´t just funny. I learned a lot from him. He knew how to command a classroom and still make it a place you wanted to be.
He was a good teacher and a good man.
Rest well, Mr. Frock.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Chuck. Chuck and I were good friends and were both charter members of the Cleveland Junior High faculty 1963-64.
He and I and two others shared a carpool back and forth to school each day. I enjoyed visiting with Chuck and Francis when Tim was just a baby. I tried to keep up with Chuck throughout the years and I'm very sorry about his death.
