Charles Garcia February 19, 1937 – February 20, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Garcia Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, just one day after his 88th birthday. Born in Los Angeles, California, on February 19, 1937, Charles was the son of Charles and Margaret Garcia. He was the younger brother to his two older sisters, Margaret and Irene.
Charles grew up with a deep love for music, learning to play the saxophone, piano, and guitar, all of which would continue to enrich his life.
As a young man, Charles worked with his family at their store, Telegraph Tile, before honing his skills in the tile business at Monarch Tile, where he spent many years building a successful career. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Charles joined the National Guard and earned the esteemed rank of Captain, proudly serving his unit for many years.
In 1959, Charles met his future wife, Raquel, on a blind date set up by her brother-in-law. After three years of dating, they married on June 23, 1962. Together, they raised three children: Rebecca, Charlene, and Paul. Charles and Raquel purchased their first home in El Monte, later moving to a second home in Glendora in 1975, where they built their life and family.
Charles later became interested in real estate, passing his exams to become a sales representative and eventually a broker.
Later in life, Charles discovered a new hobby: woodworking. His attention to detail and craftsmanship were evident in the many projects he completed for his family and friends. He was proud of his vast tool collection and the beautiful works of art he crafted for his loved ones.
Charles had a deep love for the game of golf, playing with family and friends. In his retirement, he also enjoyed playing ping pong and pool. He had a sharp mind and was constantly immersed in puzzles like Sudoku and Scrabble. He was also a passionate sports fan, particularly of tennis, the Dodgers, and the Lakers. If a good game was on, it was almost impossible to get his attention.
Above all, Charles had a remarkable sense of humor and could always be counted on to provide a joke for every occasion. His infectious laughter and quick wit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Raquel, his three children, Rebecca, Charlene, and Paul, his two sons-in-law, Ross and Eddie, and his seven wonderful grandchildren. His love for his family and friends, his hard work and devotion to his work and hobbies, and his sense of humor will leave an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, but forever in our hearts.
