Charles Alan Graff, 72, of Jackson died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, at Mercy Hospital Southeast. He was born March 5, 1953, in Cape Girardeau to John and Iris Sander Graff. Charles was known for his warm heart and dedication to his country.

Charles graduated from Scott City High School in 1971.

A proud veteran, he served in the U.S Army from 1972 through 1974, where he developed a strong sense of duty and camaraderie that he carried with him throughout his life.

After his service, he began his 40-year career on the river, where he excelled as a riverboat captain. He was an operator of towing vessels of the western rivers of the United States. He was a member of the Teamsters Union 600. He retired in 2017 as a river pilot from American Commercial Lines. His career on the Mississippi River was marked by a deep passion for the river life, steering vessels with skill and dedication while nurturing countless friendships along the way.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Karen Graff Gentry.

Survivors include Pricilla Graff Pennington of St. Louis; John Graff of Scott City; Stephen Graff of Jackson; Teresa Graff Trouy (Ed) of Millington, Tennessee; Chris Graff (Shannon) of Scott City; and nine nieces and four nephews.

Arrangements for Charles Alan Graff have been entrusted to McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
