Charles Gravell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Blaylock Funeral Home on Oct. 7, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Charles Arthur Gravell, Sr., known affectionately as Charlie or Pop, of Bangs, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 14, 2025, at the age of 76.

Born on March 31, 1949, in San Angelo, Texas to Charles Edgar and Susie Ellen Callahan Gravell, Charlie's youth was split between Slaton, Tx, and Bangs. He was a proud Bangs High School Dragon who excelled on the football field.

Charlie's life was defined by family. On August 12, 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Wilma Hunter, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted 58 wonderful years.

They raised one son, Charles Arthur Gravell, Jr., known to everyone as Rick. A talented calf roper himself, one of Charlie's greatest joys was hauling Rick, along with many of Rick's friends, to rodeos across Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. He often recalled that those Rodeo travels were a true highlight of his life, treasuring the time spent with family and the countless good people he met on the road.

He spent his final years surrounded by his greatest earthly blessings: his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charlie dedicated many years to the Texas Park & Wildlife Department before transitioning into the banking business in 1981. He loved serving the community and helping his customers throughout his entire career, retiring from Texas Bank in 2019.

A committed Christian, Charlie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Lake Brownwood, a church family that was a huge blessing in his life. He, in turn, was a blessing to everyone he met. He served the Lord by helping anyone he could, brightening every day with big smile and contagious laugh. We have perfect peace knowing Charlie (Pop)is with the Lord, exactly where he always strived to be. We will miss him deeply and feel his absence.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Wilma; his son, Rick and wife Melissa; his grandsons, Jake Gravell (Courtney), Ethan Gravell and Evan Gravell; his great-grandchildren, Liam Phillips, Mady Phillips, Lace Rowen Gravell, and the eagerly awaited Charlie Callahan Gravell. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Gabbert, his brother-in-law Michael Hunter (Cathy), and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; his brothers Jim Gravell and Eddie Gravell; his sister, Dorothy Brush; his in-laws, Jim and Lavella Huner, and his brothers-n-law, Jimmy Hunter and his wife Ann Huner and Dike Hunter.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church Lake Brownwood or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
