Charles (Charlie) Otis Hager Jr.
December 5, 1983 – October 29, 2025
Charles "Charlie" Otis Hager Jr. passed away October 29, 2025. He was born to Michelle Jackson and Charles "Sonny" Hager Sr. on December 5, 1983, in Aurora, Illinois. Charlie grew up with a deep sense of loyalty, curiosity, and compassion that would define the rest of his life.
After graduating from Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, Illinois, in 2002, Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Army. His time in the service broadened his worldview and ignited his love of travel, leading him to live in places as diverse and vibrant as Brazil, Alaska, and his hometown of Chicago.
A lover of music-especially the Deftones-Charlie found peace and connection in sound. He also had an enduring passion for film, especially horror, a love sparked by his uncle Guy who first introduced him to the genre.
Charlie was a devoted son who stood by his parents through times of illness and need, offering his strength and steady care. His kindness extended beyond family, reaching into every friendship and community he was part of.
While living in Brazil, Charlie taught English and started his own translation business where he provided interpreting services for people of all professions, fluently bridging the gap between English and Portuguese speakers. His gift for language opened doors not only professionally but personally-it was through this shared love of words and communication that he connected with his fianceé Amy, forming a relationship that became one of the great joys of his life.
Charlie's compassion also extended to animals, especially dogs. He had a soft spot for pets with "crooked teeth" and adored his loyal companion, Scout. To his friends and family, Charlie was a gentle soul-intelligent, funny, deeply caring, and endlessly genuine.
Charlie's life was a journey of service, love, and curiosity about the world. He will be remembered for his big heart, his quiet strength, and his ability to make every person and animal he met feel valued and loved.
He is survived by his father Sonny Hager and fiancée Amy McBryde. He leaves behind a vast, vibrant family and community who will forever cherish his memory.
