I miss you, Papa. It’s been a year without my best friend. I wish I could tell you everything that’s happened. I love you.

Mr. Hammock was so sweet. When he learned that my son was going into the Marines, he brought me a hat to give him and he never stopped asking about him. He was so proud of him, although they had never met. Mr. Hammock had a beautiful spirit and he will be greatly missed.

The Final Salute
Brothers and Sisters in Arms, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to Charles Hyatt Hammock, Sr. our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Charles. And to Charles it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Vietnam Wars while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Charles, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 781 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 174 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Charles' family and loved ones.

Rest In Peace my cousin. You were always so enjoyable to be around. My memories of you date way back to my childhood all the way to just a few years back.

We live just 2 houses down on Williams Way. Mr. Charles was always willing to help in anyway if someone needed it.
We lost his other longtime friend last year in Charles Stanley who lived directly across the street. Going to miss both these gentle giants.

I remember one time him and little charles discussing a windshield for a side by side. Very entertaining. He was an interesting fellow. He will be missed.
