Charles M. Hampton

Charles Matthew Hampton, a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, friend and husband passed away peacefully on January 28, at the age of 96. Charles was preceded in death by his loving parents William Hillary Hampton and Sadie Stephens Hampton, and his wife, Carol Martin Hampton.

Charles is survived by his children, Deborah Hampton Michael, Charles Gary Hampton and his wife Linda, granddaughter Hilary Hampton Peake (Ross McKnight), brother Kenny Hampton, sisters Nancy Harrold and GlendaTurbyfill (Dennis) and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Charles graduated from Germanton High School in 1946, where he was a star on the award winning basketball team. He joined the US Air Force serving in the Korean War and postwar remained in the Air Force Reserves until retirement and attained the rank of Master Sergeant.

Charles spent his career as a contract negotiator at the then Western Electric, retiring in 1983, He was an avid golfer and volunteer in his community.

His legacy of love, dedication, resilience and strong Christian faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those whose life he touched.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 2:00pm at Rich and Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington, with the family receiving friends for a time of visitation beginning at 1:00pm.
