Charles M. Harper

Charles M. "Cotton" "Chuck" Harper 77 of Cross Lanes passed away Saturday November 1, 2025 at CAMC Memorial. He was a 1968 graduate of Sissonville High School and a proud U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. He retired from Conrail as an engineer with over 28 years of service. He was an avid farmer and loved spending time on the farm. Chuck was a Christian and loved his family dearly.
Born September 27, 1948 he was the son of the late Harold Edward Harper Sarah Freda Eggleston Harper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Edward Harper Jr.; sisters, Doris Jean Harper, Patricia Ann Harper, Carolyn Faye Estep, Ramona Ruth Jones and Janet Gayle Johnson; nephew, Michael Harper.
Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Shearell Wallace Harper; children, Sami Harper (Jamie) Miller of Scott Depot, Joanna (Charlie) Hammonds of Franklin Furnace OH, Robert Emmett (Kate) Hupp of England, Sheila Marie Doss (John Hall) of Oak Hill OH, Justyn Charles (Kali) Harper of Mt. Sterling KY and Kristen Nichole (Alex) Walter of Loganville GA; sisters, Louise Heusser and Mary (Brian) Shropshire; brother, Carl David (Jana) Harper; fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Chuck is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday November 6, 2025 at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor with Pastor Doug McComas officiating. Burial will follow in Buffalo Memorial Park, Buffalo. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Eleanor.
