Charles Howard Harris was born on November 26, 1944 in Manchester, TN to Nancy Elizabeth Terry Harris and Grady McClain Harris. His earthly life was completed on October 27, 2024. He is preceded in death by both parents and his sister Betty Jo Harris Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Clara Jo England Harris, two sons, Kyle McClain Harris (Holly)and Kraig Leigh Harris, grandchildren Brett, Dillon, Kayleigh, Alyson, Hayleigh, Marina, Lorelai and six great grandchildren. Charles was a family man.
Charles and Jo were married in June 1961. After Charles graduated from Coffee County Central High School he worked in retail business until he joined the US Air Force. He was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Ft Walton Beach, Florida. His last year in the military was spent in Vietnam. Charles was a soldier.
Being of the Christian faith, Charles worshipped at New Union Church of Christ. He held the position of Coffee County Commissioner for a term. Charles was a servant of Christ and the community.
Charles spent his working life managing retail businesses, one of which was his own hardware store, Harris Hardware, and the last was Advance Auto Parts. After retirement, he drove a school bus, worked at area funeral homes and finally he worked at Manchester Building Supplies part time until his health required him to stop only 2 months ago at age 79. Charles was a worker.
From an early age, Charles enjoyed baseball, football and hunting. He played Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball, as well as high school football. Deer hunting was his favorite hobby. He spent many hours in the outdoors enjoying nature while waiting on a big buck. Charles was a sportsman.
Charles loved his family as he supported and encouraged them in their efforts. He cherished his friends and loved nature. He was quick to forgive and because he was not perfect, he was willing to apologize when he was wrong. He was fun loving and selfless even in the end of his life. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed. Charles was a good man.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, October 31st at Coffee County Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Mr. Charles Williams officiating. The United States Air Force will be rendering honors.
