Charles E. Helfert, age 86, formerly of Sheboygan, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Frontida Assisted Living in Fond du Lac, WI.
He was born in Sheboygan on April 14, 1939, to the late Norbert and Eleanor (Lulloff) Helfert. He graduated from North High School in 1958. Following graduation, Charles served his country in the United States Navy from 1958 until 1962. On September 7, 1963, Charles was united in marriage to Nancy Rusch in Sheboygan. She preceded him in death on November 9, 2024. He owned and operated Charlie’s Cabaret Westside Lanes from 1977 until 1990, making many memories and friendships in that time. Later, Charles was employed at Fleet Farm, retiring in 2002.
Charles was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the Farmers’ and Sportsmen’s Conservation Club for many years, enjoying both the wildlife and the camaraderie of those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Charles is survived by his son, Michael (Rebecca) Helfert; grandchildren, Jacob and Benjamin Helfert; sisters, Rita (Bob) Strathman and Mary Schroeder; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy DeGroff, Andrew Risch, Donna (Kurt) Hering and Linda (Wes) Podvin; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Along with his parents and wife, Nancy; Charles was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Helfert; a brother, Norbert Helfert and a brother-in-law, George Schroeder.
Private family services have taken place for Charles. He was laid to rest next to Nancy in Calvary Cemetery in Sheboygan.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Charles’s name.
