Charles Higgs Obituary

Published by Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge on Jul. 20, 2009.
Charles Adrian Higgs, best known as "Jack" passed away at age 81 on July20th 2009. Jack was born on May 6th 1928 in Bremen, Ky. to Hubert and Bonnie Harper Higgs. He had been on his own since age 13 and at age 17, joined the Merchant Marines. In 1948, during the Korean War, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany for 6 years; final rank of TSGT. Upon return, he had many different jobs until he decided to try his luck in Florida and became a painter for nearly 50 years. To name a few of his many endeavors; Jack had his own contracting business and also worked at Disney World in 1969 to 1971, formulating the colors that are still in use today. In 1982 he moved to San Antonio and made it his home for the final 27 years. Jack has always taken great pride in his work, a regular "Jack of all Trades" and was an extremely devoted single father. To describe him further, he never met a stranger; always happy; and a natural teacher as he loved to share his knowledge and experiences. Dad always knew best; and he would let you know it too. In our eyes, and many agree, he is the strongest, most kind hearted, giving man you could ever hope to know. This has been a great loss for our family, he was always there for us and we love him deeply. Jack was preceded by Charles Adrian Higgs Jr. and survived by, his daughter, Kimberley Renee Velasquez and husband Danny Velasquez of Helotes, Texas; sons Richard Lee Higgs and wife Wendelynn Higgs of Garden Ridge, Texas; James Edward Lipscomb and wife Kathy Lipscomb of Leesburg, Florida; and grandchildren, Chelsey and Jayson Luna, Rebecca, Rhett, Raven, and Robyn Higgs; and James, Stephanie, Kristi, Melissa, Candance, Jonathan and Amber Lipscomb; and Jordan and Daniel Velasquez. Jack also has 17 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Mission Park 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr. San Antonio, Texas 78230 at 9:00 am on July 24, 2009. Burial will be located at Ft. Sam Houston at 10:45 am. Reception will be held at Forest Waters Club 21320 Water Wood Dr. Garden Ridge, Texas 78266 from 12:30 to 2:30 and everyone is welcome to attend. We love and miss you, Dad!
