Charles Gene High "Charlie", 81, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at his home.
Charlie was born June 26, 1942 in Lawrence, MI to Waldo and Mildred (Mills) High. Charlie was a jack of all trades, who prided himself in helping anyone with anything at any time. You could always find Charlie doing something. He loved to build things with his hands such as the incredible buildings and structures he built over the years on the farm, especially the potting shed, pavilion, and "bird house". Charlie was also a master mechanic, spending many years operating his own shop. He was passionate about hit and miss motors, traveling with his wife to participate various events around Michigan. He was an avid train collector, housing numerous trains, tracks, and even an outdoor set-up. In his 50s, Charlie became a lineman, working for the power company until his retirement. Although he kept himself busy, he always had time for family and friends. The farm was a place where friends and family gathered, for breakfast in a bag complete with mimosas, or simply a pot luck dinner.
Family was the most important to Charlie. Time spent with the grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought a sparkle to his eye. The family parties at the farm, running in the sprinkler, planting flowers, and riding the gator and tractor were things everyone enjoyed.
Charlie will be greatly missed by his wife, Sharon Kay (Zoller) High, whom he married on November 8, 2003 in Baldwin, MI; his children, Sherri (Rick) Ramsdell, Alica (Don) Cummings, Craig (Cathy) Ericksen, and Curt (Deedee) Ericksen; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and his siblings, Sue Scott, Dorothy (Les) Chabitch, and Joan Kammeraad. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newell Chapel, www.newellchapel.com, where online condolences can be left for the family. Memorial contributions may be given to the VFW Post 6248 for the roofing fund, 560 N. Phelps St., Decatur, MI 49045.

I loved having Charlie for a friend. He had an infectious smile and his eyes just sparkled. It was always a joy to meet up with him in town. I will surely miss him.
