David High Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Spring Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery - Nashville on Jan. 12, 2026.
September 20th, 1960 - January 2nd, 2026

Well done, good and faithful servant. Semper fi.

David lived his life as a devoted child of God and a lifelong Episcopalian. His faith in God guided every calling, from military duty to community service, and he now rests in the sure hope of the Resurrection.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, David graduated from Goodpasture Christian School in 1978. He attended the University of Mississippi for a year, then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, completing Basic Training at Parris Island, SC. Following that he was augmented into Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA. Over the years he served in numerous positions and locations around the world.

David earned a degree in International Relations from the University of the South, Sewanee, in 1989. He later completed the Education for Ministry program there in 2022, deepening his understanding of Scripture and ministry.

He eventually left the Marines as a Major, following a deployment to Iraq. His Marine family remained very close to his heart.

Around 2019 David began serving as a Case Manager for Veteran's Services at the Nashville Rescue Mission. His life's purpose became providing compassionate guidance to fellow veterans, living out his faith through practical care.

A voracious reader and student of history, David loved Southern literature, Civil War history, and SEC football past and present, especially the Alabama Crimson Tide.

David is survived by his sisters, Sally Marshall High (Jerry Smith), Lisa High Robison (John Robison), Julia Anderson High (David Austin), his nephews and niece, Lawren Lopez, Coleman Smith, and Mary Austin, and numerous cousins and dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents, James Marshall High and Terry Davis High, and his stepmother Julia "Pudge" Littleton High.

We will celebrate David's life on Saturday, February 7th, 2026 at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Pike S, Nashville, TN, 37216. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM, then a service in the Chapel at 1 PM, followed by interment in the cemetery.

To honor his memory, gifts may be made to Operation Stand Down Tennessee at https://www.osdtn.org/. May those gifts continue his work among veterans and uphold the values he held dear.

O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered, accept our prayers on behalf of your servant David and embrace him in your loving and forgiving arms; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Rest in peace, faithful servant.

Was fortunate to link up with Dave a few times in the past few years while traveling thru TN. Terribly sad to know that one our bubbas has crossed the LOD. Way too young. Dave was a great dude and always kept me on my toes. I have wonderful memories of our days in the TBS IG. As the Patrolling Primary, his events were always to the most enjoyable - for students and staff alike. Godspeed, brother!

David was a great XO when we worked together with the 1990 Fox Company at TBS. The day I was promoted to Captain, he read the warrant and gave Colonel Kelly a set of his Captain bars to pin on me. He remained a great friend, getting back in touch with me when I returned from Afghanistan and calling me frequently until last November. I will miss him dearly.

David was one of my most favorite people I ever had the chance to know. He was my brother in Christ and recovery. I will truly miss ole' kat daddy. My condolences to his family.
