Affectionately called brother and uncle Charlie, he lived his early years in Philadelphia before moving to Jackson, MS with his family at the age of 16. After graduating from Jackson Central High School, he spent the next 40 years as a butcher with Jitney Jungle and other meat markets. His favorite pastimes were visiting with coffee buddies, watching old western shows, and gospel music.
