Charles "Charlie" Ervin Holborn, 69 of Gaylord, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023, with his family by his side. Born in Gaylord on December 29,1953, He was the son of Floyd and Patricia (Slater) Holborn.
On December 28,1971, in Gaylord, he married the love of his life, Karen Welsh. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1971 – 1975, being stationed in Kentucky, Louisiana, Germany, and West Point, New York. Following his military service, he worked at the Holiday Inn in Gaylord washing dishes, Rowley’s Sawmill in Vanderbilt, K-Byte in Gaylord, and finished his working career at The Lake Louise United Methodist Camp in Boyne Falls for 24 years serving his Lord and Savior before retiring due to health reasons. Charlie enjoyed cutting firewood, camping, fishing, going for walks in the woods and talking to God. His greatest blessing was spending time with his family and extended family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years; his children Jason, Timmy (Kristin), and Travis Holborn His mother, Patricia; grandchildren, Andrew (Tiana) Denter, Scott (Dana) Taylor, Katelyn (Jesse) Caverson, Jason, Tori, Hope Ann Holborn, Hunter, Haydon Elora Mench; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth; great-grandson, Brayden; and 2 more great-grandchildren due in April and May. Also surviving are his siblings, William (Kay) Holborn of FL. and extended family, Neil (Joy) Brasseur of Vanderbilt, Fugi (Jenn) Hammond, Steve (Shannon) Mench and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd; his sister, Christine Dutcher; paternal grandparents, Charles and Ila Holborn, and maternal grandparents, Ervin and Dorothy Slater.
A celebration of Life service will take place 12:00 PM Monday, November 6, 2023, at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where the family will visit with friends beginning at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will follow at 920 Sheldon Place Apts. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
