Charles T. "Butch" Honaker, 83, peacefully passed away on September 21, 2024, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. He was born in Fayette County on August 8, 1941, to Charles and Gladys Louise (Hipes) Honaker. He was a lifelong resident of Scarbro, WV. He graduated from Collins High School, Class of 1959.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 56 years (Glenna Mae Blackwell “Sparkle”), and his sister, Carol Gregory of Texas. Butch is survived by his brother Bill (Sandy) Honaker of Virginia, his daughter Melinda (Keith) Zutaut of Virginia, and his son Chuck (Sherri) Honaker of Scarbro. He was proud of his five grandchildren, Allyson (Alex) Hambel, Tabetha Soberdash, Brent Zutaut, Travis, and Trista Honaker. He most recently became a great-grandfather to Brooks Matthew Hambel.
Butch dedicated 43 years of his life to the Kroger Company as a skilled journeyman butcher, eventually retiring from the Oak Hill, WV, location. His passion for farming and gardening was evident, and in his later years, he enjoyed watching old westerns, football, and solving word puzzles. Most of all, he enjoyed his loyal companion, Rosie. He held an affiliation with the Scarbro United Methodist Church.
Services will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the funeral at 1:00 p.m. Pastor David Altizer will officiate. After the burial at High Lawn Memorial Park, there will be a time for fellowship and a dinner at the Lewis House in Oak Hill.
