Glenn Honaker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Honaker Funeral Home on Feb. 1, 2026.
Mr. Glenn O. Honaker, age 75, of Honaker, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday (January 31, 2026) at his home. Born November 18, 1950 in Amonate, Virginia, he was a son of the late Cecil and Helen White Honaker. "Sugar Bear", as he was affectionately known, was a lifelong resident of the area, and a 1971 graduate of Honaker High School where he was a proud member of the Tigers football and basketball teams. He was employed by Virginia Department of Corrections for thirty-three years as a correctional officer. A devoted Christian, he was a faithful member of Swords Creek Community Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and had formerly served as youth pastor. He also served his community on the Honaker Fire Department and Honaker Men's Club. He led a prayer group at Swords Creek Elementary School and had a prison prayer ministry. He enjoyed fishing, travelling, reading, and spending time with his family. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making everyone laugh; yet his heart's desire was that his life would be an example that would lead others to the Lord.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Honaker and Ronnie Honaker and one nephew, Frank Powers.

Survivors include his wife, Sonja Honaker; four children: two daughters by birth, Jennifer Helbert and husband, Mike and Erica Miller and two daughters of the heart, Crystal Sessions and Monica Ritchie and husband, Joe; nine grandchildren, Alyssa Stanley and husband, Joey, Emilee Lane and husband, Logan, Tirrah Gentry and husband, Kylar, Tyler Miller and wife, Melody. Chase Ritchie, Briar Sessions, Dylan Miller, Michelle Blevins and Chris Helbert; one brother, Jimmy Honaker; one sister, Vivian Powers; special sister-in-law, Dwanda Emmons; special friend, Randy Hughes; five-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his #2 boy, Max.

Memorial services will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday at Swords Creek Community Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Jessee and Rev. Arnold King officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 6 PM.

In lieu of flowers, it was Glenn's request that memorial contributions be made to the SCCBC Youth Group, P.O. Box 309 Swords Creek, Virginia 24649.
