Velma Dye Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Honaker Funeral Home on Feb. 13, 2026.
Velma Sue Dye, age 70, passed away Friday, February 13, 2026 in Saltville, Virginia. Born April 5, 1955 in Saltville, Virginia, she was a daughter of Willa Dellamae Whitehead Wilson and the late Jesse Lee Wilson. She had spent her early life in the Saltville area and was a 1974 graduate of R.B. Worthy High School. She met the love of her life, Burley Wayne Dye and they made their home in Swords Creek, Virginia after they married in 1975. She enjoyed playing cards, going to Bingo, making peanut butter balls, reading and watching old movies, especially the original Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella with Lesley Ann Warren. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Burley lived a very simple life focused on God and their family. She had a strong, beautiful, pure faith which always remained steadfast and carried her through even her hardest days.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her precious husband, Burley Wayne Dye; her identical twin sister, Wilma Lou Wilson; one stillborn son; and her great-grandson, Blaine Wagner Crabtree.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, whom she loved fiercely; include her daughter, Carey Dye and her fiancé, Kevin Holman; three grandsons, Ryan Crabtree and wife, Alexis, Jordan Crabtree and Jacob Crabtree; three great-grandchildren, Audree Crabtree, Addyson Crabtree and Gage Crabtree; one sister, June Wilson; two brothers, David Wilson and wife, Carol, Joe Wilson and Michael Wilson and wife, Delores; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ellis Whited and Rev. Joel Horn officiating. Interment will follow in the Dye Cemetery on Apple Blossom Road in Swords Creek, Virginia with the committal service conducted by her brother, Pastor Joe Wilson.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Crabtree, Jordan Crabtree, Ryan Crabtree, June Wilson, David Wilson, Mike Wilson.

Kevin Holman and Joe Wilson will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends after 6 PM Sunday at Honaker Funeral Home where an evening service will be conducted with Pastor Joe Wilson officiating.
