Carson Lowe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Honaker Funeral Home on Mar. 14, 2026.
Mr. Carson Curtis "Dickie" Lowe, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home on March 13, 2026, resting near the window where he always wanted to be. Born October 20, 1945 in Raven, Virginia, he was a son of the late Roby and Mimie Salyers Lowe and a lifelong resident of Honaker, a place he proudly called home throughout his life. Dickie grew up working on a farm, where he learned the value of hard work and dedication at an early age. Those values stayed with him throughout his life. A member of the UMWA, he spent 32 years working as a coal miner and was proud of his career. Over the years, he worked at several mines including Clinchfield, Lambert Fork 1 and 2, and McClure 2. During this time in the mines he held many roles, including Mining Electrician, Roof Bolter, General Inside, and Fire Boss.

Dickie also proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, achieving the rank of E-4. His favorite place he was stationed in was Alaska.

Dickie loved hunting and fishing and was a true automotive enthusiast. He also had a deep love for gardening. While some people are said to have a green thumb, we always joked that Dickie had green toes – he could walk through the garden and it would flourish. His gardens were always beautiful and bountiful, and he took great joy in sharing the harvest with friends, family, and neighbors.

He was known by family and friends as a kind-hearted man who would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Dickie loved to joke and "pick" with Peoples, and those who knew him well knew he had a warm heart and a good sense of humor. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his generosity, and the laughter he shared with family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Leonard A. Lowe, John Lowe, Loraine Smith, Hazel Lester and Noah Harris.

Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-three years, Geneva Sutherland Lowe; his children, Teresa Ball and husband, Gary of Newberry, South Carolina, Stephanie Jacobs and husband, David of Salem, Virginia, and Karen Lowe of Lebanon; his step-children, Rhonda Perkins and husband, Doug of Honaker and Randy Helton of Bluefield, Virginia; his siblings, Nina Meade and husband, Thurston and Roby Lowe, Jr. and wife, Glenda; sister-in-law, Maggie Harris. He was a proud grandfather to Brook Rikard, Evan Jacobs, Adren Jacobs, Megan Helton, Lindsay Helton, Jessie Helton, Grant Perkins, Ethan Helton, and Gavin Helton; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Robert Tiller and Rev. Edward Tiller officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia.

Pallbearers will be Doug Perkins, Randall Duty, Randy Helton, Dwayne Meade, Ray Lester, Gary Ball, and David Jacobs.

Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

UMWA honors will be conducted by UMWA Sub 28 Chaplain Corp.

Military honors will be conducted by Casey Shortt VFW Post 9640 of Richlands, Virginia.

The family will receive friends after 6 PM Tuesday at the funeral home, where an evening service will be conducted at 7PM with Rev. Jason Reynolds officiating.
