Charles Jarrett Obituary

Reverend Charles L. Jarrett, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center.

He was born on Jan. 11, 1937, to Norman Adkins and Rosie Gunnoe Adkins. Following the death of his mother, he was adopted and raised by his paternal Aunt Vonnie and Uncle Charles M. Jarrett.

Charles felt the call to the ministry in his early 20s after serving in the United States Navy. He graduated from Allegheny College with a degree in Theology. He began his ministry at the Church of the Nazarene and then serving in churches throughout West Virginia, Ohio, and Virginia for nearly 60 years. He received his Doctorate of Ministry from Emmanuel Baptist University in Connelly Springs, N.C., on Sept. 15, 2000. Charles retired in 2021 due to health issues.

Charles loved his family, congregations and his wife of 70 years, Marie. He was an avid reader and read everything he could on the Civil War. He followed most sports, but Duke basketball held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Birdie Adkins, Brenda Jarrett, and Kay Jarrett, and his brothers, Baron, and Denver Jarrett.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Marie A. Jarrett; children, Charles L. Jarrett, Jr. (Jeanie), Mitchell A. Jarrett (Donna), Robert B. Jarrett (Jan), Martha G. Collett (Rusty) and Meredith R. Richards (Brian); 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and his cat, Lance.
