Charles Wayne Johnson, age 84, passed away at his residence in Brownsville, TN on Friday, June 14, 2024. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Brownsville Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Brownsville Funeral Home.
Charles will long be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He retired as a Captain with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division of the Tennessee Department of Safety. He enjoyed playing golf, playing the piano, fishing and listening to music. He sang in the choir for many years. He loved being outdoors and spending time working in his yard. He loved life and loved a good laugh and was always a jokester with those around him. He was a strong supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. He loved his family dearly, and they will remember the amazing memories made through the years.
Charles is survived by his wife, Doris Johnson of Brownsville, TN; one daughter, Melanie Dawson (Allen) of Selmer, TN; one sister, Sue Pace of Waco, TX; five grandchildren, Zachary Hart, Amanda Hart Stephenson, Elizabeth Hart Rainey, Kelsey Croom (Chantler), Candace Jones, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pam Hawkins and Louise Reed Hawkins; one daughter, Patricia Diane Hart; two brothers, James Johnson and Darwin Johnson, and one grandchild, Ashley Ann Grimes.
Pallbearers for the service will be Joe Humphries, Cary Hopkins, Shane Grimes, Allen Dawson, Chantler Croom, and Zach Hart.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
