Charles (Bud) Philip Johnson, PhD sadly passed away on November 29, 2025, at the age of 89, in Long Beach, CA from complications of Alzheimer 's Disease. He is predeceased by his father, Chet, mother, Clara Johnson, his only sister, Donna Jones and former wife, Rhonda who was the mother of his 2 children. Charles had two children, Charles Philip Johnson II (Linda), and Tania Hopkins (Richard). He had 4 grandchildren, Chad, Phoebe, Kylene (Todd) Johnson and Jason (Erin) Hopkins along with 3 great grandchildren, Makenna Johnson and Faye and Flora Hopkins. He was married to Helen Parra Johnson for 34 years and was loved by his 6 sisters-in-laws a brother-in-law, nephews and nieces.

Bud began his youth years when he began working at age 10 as a paper boy to help support his mother. Bud was recognized for his hard work by a gas station owner who offered him a job as a gas station attendant at 15 years old. He went on to become an Electronical Engineer, a graduate of Cal State Long Beach and Cal State Dominguez Hills where he earned his master’s degree in business administration and earned a PhD in Industrial Technology.

Bud (Charles) was a native of Long beach and served his community as an instructor at Cal State Long Beach and as the Department Head at Long Beach Community College in Electronics. Bud served on the Marine Advisory Committee for 8 years and was commissioned by then Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Boating and Waterways Commission. He later designed and built a cabin cruiser named "Destiny" in which he chartered, then build the Harbor light Marina in Long Beach.

Bud served in the Coast Guard as a reserve at the age of 20, then went active in the Army at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX where he met his first wife. He loved being in the Army and was immensely proud to serve. He was selected to be on the guided missel program and ended his commission as a Sergeant E6.

Bud will always be remembered as a hardworking man who loved his family immensely, was kind to everyone and was always willing to offer advice to young people to help them succeed in life.
