Charles Eugene "Chuck" Kent

Charles Eugene “Chuck” Kent, age 74, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 16, 2024.

He was born on March 12, 1950 to Clayton and Agnes (Bruvold) Kent. He attended Gilmanton Schools, graduating from Gilmanton High School in 1968.

Following graduation, Chuck farmed with his parents on Laehn Ridge, south of Gilmanton. On May 14, 1977, Chuck married Bonnie Larson and at this time, they bought the family farm and Chuck farmed a total of 31 years.

Chuck took pride in farming the land with contour strips and taking care of his cattle. Most days, the cattle were fed before he took care of himself. There was nothing like John Deere machinery to run a dairy farm and this passion turned into years of collecting John Deere toy machinery. The farm sold in 1999.

Chuck and Bonnie then moved to Gilmanton, where he helped at Jerry's Feed Store and helped other local farmers. They operated the G-Mart from 2002 until 2022. Even after operating the store for 20 years, Chuck was still a farmer at heart. Chuck enjoyed snowmobiling, going for car rides after the store closed, history, tractor pulls, reading most anything and especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, which could consist of games, dice, coloring and watching them play sports. 

Chuck is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bonnie; daughter, Samantha (Mathew) Murray; son Nicholas (Rachel) Kent; three precious granddaughters, Anna Kim Kent, Brook Bonnie Kent and Ella Agnes Kent; sister, Beth (Fred) Zahara; brother, Larry (Kathy) Kent; sisters in law, Sharon Kent, Sharon (Andy) Hager, Nancy (Allen) Risler, Heidi Perry and Karla (Ron) Olson; brothers in law, Dale (Cindy) Larson and Scot (Cheryl) Olson; aunt, Marge Christianson; godson, Cole Olson; special friend, Emmett Rutschow; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, Merle Kent; father and mother in law, Homer and Bernita Larson; sister in law, Rosemary Kent; brothers in law, David (Lois) Larson and Galen (Pat) Larson.

A celebration of life, along with a time for all to share special memories of Chuck will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Mondovi Chapel. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.  Inurnment will follow the time of celebration at Gilmanton Cemetery.  

A celebration of life, fellowship and time to come together will continue on Sunday, starting at 3:00 PM at the Forrest-Gunderson-Klevgard American Legion Hall in Gilmanton.
