Charles Todd Kerns, 62, passed away suddenly on October 23, 2023 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Born on February 12, 1961, in Alamance County, to Charles Craven "Wink" Kerns and Sandra Ezzell Kerns, who survive. Todd lived a life filled with passion and purpose.
Todd began his career as a brick mason, working alongside his father at Kerns Masonry, before eventually transitioning into the role of project manager for Scott Stone. His expertise in the field was unmatched, and his dedication to his craft was evident in every project he undertook. Todd's commitment to excellence was admired by all who had the pleasure of working with him.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Todd will be remembered as a devoted family man. He cherished his role as a father and stepfather, embracing each moment shared with his children - Molly Kerns, Emily Shoop (Eric), and Conner Kerns (Savannah). His love extended to his cherished grandchildren; Charlee Shoop, Russell Shoop, Emmett Shoop, and Hazel Kerns. Todd embraced every opportunity to shower them with affection and wisdom including coaching and attending all of their sporting events. He was also the loving brother to Chris Kerns (Debi Oakley), Randy Kerns (Happy), Kelli Jones (Todd).
In addition to being an adoring father and grandfather, Todd was also a partner to Shelly Recker for over 10 years. Their bond was built on mutual respect and unwavering support. Todd's deep love for Shelly extended to her son Jack Recker as well.
Todd had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought him immense joy throughout his life. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and could often be found engrossed in books or making intricate creations with his own two hands. Woodworking became one of Todd's passions; he possessed a remarkable talent for transforming raw materials into beautiful works of art. When he wasn't busy hammering away at projects or engulfed in literature, Todd could be found honing his skills on the golf course or lending his voice to various choirs - including the Burlington Boys Choir and several church choirs. His rich vocal talents uplifted the spirits of all who had the privilege of hearing him sing.
He excelled on both snow and water skis, effortlessly gliding through pristine surfaces. The calmness and tranquility of the lake brought him great joy and solace. As a testament to his expertise, Todd even became a member of the esteemed NC Masonry Association, further solidifying his dedication to his craft.
Todd's infectious warmth and kind-hearted nature endeared him to everyone he encountered. His gentle spirit and genuine compassion touched countless lives over the years. He was a beacon of light in times of darkness, offering unwavering support to friends and family alike. Todd's impact extended beyond blood relations; he had an extensive network of adoring nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who were captivated by his kindness.
Services celebrating Todd's life will be held at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory in Burlington on Monday, October 30, 2023. Visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM, followed by a Memorial Service in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 PM by Rev. Bob Disher.
