Charles Kraut Obituary

Charles Robert Kraut, Jr., 63 of Berlin, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain.

Born on July 1, 1960, he was one of four children to the late Charles Kraut, Sr. and Diane (Dagata) Kraut. Upon graduating from Granger Lane School in Plainville, Charles went on to work for many years at Big Y, where he was well known and loved by his community. Always ready for a conversation and to put a smile on your face, his customers would often choose his post and wait in line just to say hello. Charles had a passion for music and could name countless songs and artists, with the American Top 40 on Sunday nights being a weekly ritual. Having learned the accordion at young age, he made each family gathering complete with his singing and dancing. Charles was always eager to shop for magazines and newspapers to share with much excitement the latest gossip about singers and movie stars. In order for each of his outings to be a success, they would have to end with the purchase of his favorite mints, and a trip by Dunkin for a coffee and donut. Charles was a longtime member of PARC where he made many friends. Together they went on many adventures, including going to the movies, out to restaurants, dances, fairs and sporting events, and competed alongside each other at the Special Olympics where he earned several medals. Above all, Charles loved being surrounded by his family. Annual trips to Misquamicut Beach, and loudly and enthusiastically cheering on his favorite teams, the NY Giants and Boston Red Sox, are just some of the many cherished times shared together. He will be missed dearly every day and will live on for eternity in the hearts of those who loved him.

He is survived by his brothers, Michael Kraut and his wife Caryle of Pahrump, NV and Kevin Kraut and his wife Jeanne of Farmington; his sister, Kathryn Kraut of Newington; nephews Sean, Kyle, Robert and Michael; nieces Jayme, Katelyn, and Olivia; two great-nephews Cooper and Crosby; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, Charlie may be remembered with contributions to Harc, Inc., 900 Asylum Ave, MS 1002, Hartford, CT 06105 or athttp://www.harc-ct.org

I am so deeply saddened by the passing of my cousin Chuckie. Like many, many others, I adored him, all of him - and his genuine, unbiased enthusiasm. Chuckie was epitome of positivity and kindness. There was nothing better than time spent with him at family events and being reminded (for more than 50 years) that I was still his Fairy Princess - or at least one of them :-) ! Like many of us lucky to know Chuckie, I will mindfully hold on to his beautiful spirit forever. There will never be another Prince Charles Jr. Kraut.

My sincere condolences to the Kraut family. Chucky and I always got a kick out of us having the same birth date. Rest in Peace and may he
be happily re-united with his mom and dad.

My sincere condolences on the passing of Charlie. I have such fond memories of Charlie, his engaging personality and kindness. I was Charlie's teacher at Granger Lane School in the 70's. I remember lovely dinners at his parents home and having Charlie as a guest at my wedding in 1979.

I am devastated to learn of the death of my Godson, Charles (Chuckie) Kraut. Since I moved to Florida I've seen Chuckie just a few times, but prior to that we had a nice relationship whereby he always made me feel like royalty whenever we met. He was a ray of sunshine, and who could help but love him? Sending my heartfelt sympathy and love to the family. RIP Chuckie.
