Charles "Chuck" Douglas Kyle, 77, of Cold Spring and formerly of Ft. Thomas, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Chuck grew up in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He attended Highlands High School, where he played football, shot put and also won a state diving championship. Chuck accepted a football scholarship from Purdue University. He was a three-year starter at the middle guard position and was an All-Big Ten player in 1966 (UPI-1), 1967 (AP-1, UPI-1) and 1968 (AP-1, UPI-1). Chuck was also a consensus first-team selection as a middle guard on the 1968 College Football All-America Team. He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round (125th overall) of the 1969 NFL draft. Later that year, Chuck signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. He appeared in 6 games and played in the 57th Grey Cup. In 1971, Chuck played in 12 games and registered 2 interceptions. On June 9, 1971, he was traded to the Montreal Alouettes, and on February 5, 1972, he was signed as a free agent by the New York Jets. Chuck had a successful sales and marketing career after he retired from football. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie & Shirley Kyle and brother, Roger Kyle. Chuck is survived by his wife, Barbara (nee. Jaeger) Kyle; daughter, Lori Bargayo; grandchildren, Sterling & Ailani Bargayo; brother, Steve (Amy) Kyle and sisters, Leslie (Mary) & Marsha Kyle. A Visitation will be held from 10-12 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 12 p.m., Saturday, December 21st at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. One of the GREATEST TO EVER PLAY!!!!
While I did not know you personally, I thank you Mr. Kyle for pioneering the path of hard work & dedication to which every Highlands Football team after you lived by.
Coach Robert "Bob" Luecke often spoke about you as we were getting our ankles taped prior to the game. "Play like Chuck and never give up".
