Charles "Charlie" Mangan Jr.

Charles B. "Charlie" Mangan, Jr., 83, of Newington, CT, died Thursday October 16,2025 recently of Buffalo Missouri. Born in New Britain he attended Goodwin Technical High School and joined the Navy where he served proudly on the USS Great Sitkin from 1960 to 1963. He devoted his life to public service with the Town of Newington working for the Newington Public Schools, Newington Highway Department, and retiring from the Newington Parks and Ground Department. He also served with the Newington Police Department, Volunteer Fire Department, and Volunteer Ambulance. He served as Commander of American Legion Post 68, Berlin, CT and the Amvets Post 117 Buffalo, Missouri. He was Scout Master for several years with the Boy Scouts of America. He was also in charge of the dining hall and commissary for the COQUIT Scout training program where he proudly earned the name "Chuck Wagon Charlie".

Charles was predeceased by his parents, Charles B. Mangan Sr., and Dorothy Minicucci; his wife of 43 years, Jean Mangan; his sister, Carol Swetz; his brother, John "Jack" Mangan, and close Family friends Joey and Joan Belanger.

He is survived by two sisters, Betty Jane (Mangan) Duguay and Bonnie (Minicucci) Theriault; two sons and their wives, Scott and Kristine Mangan and Shawn and Tracy-Lee Mangan; grandchildren, Amanda-Mae Rivers, Aaron, Nicholas, Michael and Caitlin Mangan, Sarah and Ben Mako, John (Jack) and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Charley Faye, Oliver William and Maia Jean Mako. He leaves behind his wife of 14 years, Karen Mangan; step-daughter and son-in-law, Cari and John Arretteig; and his dog, Gizmo.

Calling hours will be held Monday (Nov 10th) 4 to 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will be a private family service.
