Charles Joseph Mannix

Charles Joseph "Chuck" Mannix passed away on April 11 at the age of 79 while recuperating from heart surgery. Chuck was born in Washington, DC and raised in Bethesda, Maryland. He was an alumna of the St. John's College High School in DC and University of Maryland, where he studied history and was a past president of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. Chuck had a successful career in sales working in IBM's offices in Baltimore, DC, Trenton, and Philadelphia, and was a member of the "100 Percent Club" for 26 years. A lifelong hunter, he traveled to bird and game hunting events around the world and had a duck blind in the front yard of his former home on Kent Island. Chuck also had encyclopedic knowledge of guns and was a highly accomplished sporting clay and five-stand shooter. He was the 1992 national live pigeon shooting champion, placed first in the Pennsylvania State Championship Side-by-Side Shooting Class A competition, and won numerous awards at regional sporting clay events. He was an active member of the Delaware County Field & Stream Association in Pennsylvania and the Quinton Sportsmen's Club in New Jersey, and is a former member of the Vintagers Order of Edwardian Gunners, where he combined his love of history and shooting. He was also an award-winning photographer, ace blackjack player, and avid sailor who loved cruising around the Chesapeake Bay and restored a wooden Herreshoff racer. Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Mary Anne; his children from his first wife Rawle: Anne Elliott Brown (Mark) of Lutherville, MD and Christopher John Mannix of Chester, MD; sister Charlotte Moran of Bethesda, MD, and her partner Joop Lammars. A funeral mass will be held at St. Katherine of Siena Catholic Church in Wayne on Thursday, May 11 at 11:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at the Delaware County Field & Stream Association in Brookhaven, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Ducks Unlimited.
