Charles Masten Obituary

Visit the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, Inc. - Harrington website to view the full obituary.

Charles “Charlie” Robert Masten Sr., 85, of Harrington, Delaware, entered his heavenly home on October 23rd, 2025, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. He was born in Dover, Delaware, to the late William D. Masten and Elizabeth Annie Masten.

Charlie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful servant of God. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Judith Lee Masten; his children Charles R. (Charlene) Masten Jr., Judi L. (Donald) Probst, and Candi L. (William) Biles. He was the proud grandfather of Alicia (Joshua) Collier, Taylor (Manny) Orta, Christopher (Laura) Masten and Trey Mata, and the cherished brother of Vivian Catalanatto and Eleanor Eckley.

Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter Tiffany, great-granddaughter Lily, and brothers John, Freddy, Billy, Gene, Jeff, and sisters Jeanette, Dorcus, Louise and Betty.

Charlie spent much of his career running Masten’s Auto Detailing, with his wife. Together they built a reputation for honesty, hard work, and kindness. Even after retiring, Charlie continued to work in his community part-time as a greeter at Rudy’s Restaurant alongside his dear friend Rudy. His cheerful spirit and larger-than-life personality made him a friend to all. Known for his playful sense of humor, and endless storytelling, Charlie had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and for keeping them laughing. He could be ornery in the most endearing way, always bubbling with positivity and charm. Customers came not only for the food but for the joy of seeing Charlie, sharing a laugh, and hearing one of his stories.

A man of unwavering faith, Charlie lived to serve the Lord and others. He attended the Calvary Wesleyan Church for the past  9 Years. His greatest joy was being a witness for God, offering prayer, encouragement, and comfort to anyone in need. He was often called upon to pray for the sick, the dying, and those seeking peace, and he did so with a humble heart and steadfast belief in God’s goodness. Charlie’s faith was not just something he spoke of, it was the way he lived every day.

Charlie’s legacy is one of love, faith, and service. He leaves behind a family and community deeply blessed by his example and a lifetime of kindness that reflected God’s light in all he did.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)
