Charles Aldwin Mercer

Charles Aldwin Mercer, age 85, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, March 19, 2026. He was born on September 25, 1940, in Moultrie, GA to parents, Charles H. Mercer and Liza Mae Browning Mercer.

He was deeply devoted to his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. A dedicated and hardworking man, he took great pride in providing for those he loved and could often be found tending to his yard with care and commitment. He enjoyed fishing, as well as playing his guitar and singing—simple pleasures that reflected his gentle spirit. He was also an exceptional cook who found happiness at the grill, sharing meals made with love. Though naturally reserved and soft-spoken, he possessed a steady, warm presence that spoke volumes to those who knew him well.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, James, Chuck and Herman Mercer; and sisters, Viola Hewett and Lillian Walden.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Debra Mercer of Valdosta, GA; son, Donnie Sirmans (Nita) of Valdosta, GA; brother Waymon Mercer (Brenda) of Ohio and grandchildren, Kaleb Sirmans, Kyndall Sirmans and Kamren Sirmans. A number of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Services will be held at Music Funeral Services Chapel on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
