Charles Millard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sweet's Funeral Home on Aug. 28, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Charles A. Millard, 88, of Poughkeepsie, passed away on August 27, 2025, at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, with his family by his side.

Born on July 15, 1937, in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Clifford and Helen (Miller) Millard.

Chuck was an active member in his community and will be remembered for helping others. He was a long-time member of the Lion's Club, the College Hill Golf League, and various bowling leagues.

Chuck was also involved with Habitat for Humanity, and he volunteered his time while spending the winter in Texas, building houses in Mexico to help those in need.

Chuck worked for Prudential and MetLife Insurance companies as an Insurance Agent for many years before retiring in 1995.

On April 27, 1963, he married the former Marilyn Carr from Massena and they were devoted to each other for 62 years.

In addition to his wife, Marilyn, Chuck is survived by his children, Craig Millard and wife Kristin, and Paul Millard and wife Anne; lovingly known as Poppop to his six grandchildren, Cam, Quinn, Riley, Emily, Maddie, and Colin Millard.

He is also survived by his brother, Edward Millard and wife Darlene.

Along with his parents Chuck was predeceased by his sister Lee Black.

Chuck never met a stranger, always stopping to talk and share his warmth. He treated every person he met with equal respect and genuine attention and never judged. He was constantly offering his help to anyone who might need it, both big task and small. He adored his two sons and they celebrated their shared passion of golf which include several trips to Scotland. His grandchildren were the light of his life and there was rarely a sporting event that he was not in the stands, sometimes traveling hours for a one hour mite hockey game.

His passion, besides his family and golf included birding which he enjoyed doing with his wife all over the country.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

Family and friends are invited to gather in Chuck's memory on Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 2pm to 5pm at Sweet's Funeral Home, 4365 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
