Charles L. Moore Jr., was born on December 3, 1970, in Detroit, MI to the late Charles L. Moore Sr. and late Barbara Raynell Moore and passed away unexpectedly on December 9, 2024 at his home in Gallatin, TN.

Charles attended LeMoyne-Owen college in Memphis, Tennessee and continued his education by pursuing a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, MI. Charles was known for his wealth of knowledge and ability to articulate his vast knowledge in a charmingly well-spoken demeanor. Following law school, Charles began his career with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in 2001, becoming a respected leader and dedicated public servant as he progressed through the ranks of VA eventually becoming the Executive Director for the Nashville Department of Veterans Affairs regional office in 2019. Charles various roles in the VA granted him the unique opportunity to travel across the country and impact the lives of not only Veterans but employees.

Charles possessed a big personality that was both hilarious and opinionated. He had a balance of being stern, yet nurturing to those around him. Charles was a Veterans advocate, a problem solver, a difference maker, motivational, and cared deeply for his employees and leadership team which led him to being highly respected among his peers. Charles will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his work and his loving presence in the lives of those he touched. His legacy of leadership, mentorship, compassion, and dedication will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Charles was also a homebody and true “foodie.” While he enjoyed shopping and eating out, he most enjoyed spending time in his backyard grilling and smoking meats during the summer while listening to music and watching sports especially his hometown team, the Detroit Lions. You could always find him at home during the fall on Saturdays and Sundays watching football all day. Charles was also known for his keen sense of fashion; a vibrant and stylish man who loved bold colors and unique designs and always brought a touch of flair to every room he entered. Always making a statement with his choice of clothing, his attention to detail is a quality that matched his eloquence and confidence. Charles will be missed for his infectious energy, flamboyant style, loud commentary, his made up words that his wife termed as “Charles-isms” and love for his family and friends.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Marcella Moore, son Jelani Moore, and daughters Maya Moore and Tacori Pitre, brother Troy Moore, and sister Miracle Roberts, along with many other relatives and friends who were touched by his life.
