Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home - Herrin on Feb. 10, 2026.
Charles "Chuck" Preston Morris, age 58, of Herrin, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026 at his home in Herrin.
He was born in Williamson County on Wednesday, May 31, 1967, a son of Charles Carl and Doris Jean (Waldron) Morris.
Chuck, a man of grit and adventure, leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a lot of heart. For over seventeen years, Chuck shared his life with the love of his life, Rhonda Jo Curtright, who preceded him in death on February 8, 2019. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who remember him as a complex and lovable character. Chuck wore many hats throughout his life, including laborer for the City of Herrin, where he helped build the bridge at the park and other landmarks. But his true passion was tree service - he spent more than thirty years climbing high and feeling alive, working in tree service and also as a roofer. He loved being in trees, and it was clear that it brought him a sense of joy and freedom. When he wasn't working, Chuck could often be found riding his Harley or playing pool. He was a man of many interests, but his greatest joy was helping others. He had a big heart and a strong work ethic, always looking for ways to lend a hand or make a living. Chuck was a true original, a wild and funny guy who wasn't afraid to speak his mind. He was always worried about everyone else's problems except his own. He had a way of making people laugh, and his absence will be felt deeply by those who knew him. His neighbors will miss him dearly - he was always there to shovel snow or feed animals, and his presence will be deeply missed. We celebrate Chuck's life, his love of adventure, and his unwavering commitment to living life on his own terms.
He is survived by four children- Kaleigh (Lynzee) Morris of Marion, Zachary Morris of St. Louis, Missouri, Jaycee Morris of Marion, and Jeremy Morris of Herrin; four grandchildren- Kennady Ramsey, twins- Sydney and Journey Pyles, and Amiyah Albritton; sister- Lana Kay Bailey of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers- Bobby Ridings of Mulkeytown and Marvin Ridings of Freeman Spur; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, including Tina Jane, who he was very close to, and her children. Chuck also leaves behind several beloved extended family members and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister- LouAnn Ridings, and the love of his life, Rhonda Curtright.
