The Privilege of Knowing Chuck

Chuck Nealy was an extraordinary man, a true friend, and a person of remarkable character. Beyond his many professional accomplishments, it was his integrity, humility, and kindness that defined him most.

Chuck had a strong sense of duty. He was forthright, affable, and generous with his time and talents. You could always count on him-honest, loyal, and dependable. Whether lending a hand on a project or quietly helping someone in need, Chuck approached everything with enthusiasm and good humor, never a complaint.

His love of family was unwavering. He and his wife, Karon, shared a deep devotion to one another that endured from the beginning of their marriage to his final days. His pride in his son, Ben, was immense-especially in watching Ben follow in his footsteps as a pilot and leader. Chuck's affection extended to his daughter-in-law, Erin, and to his grandchildren, Carter Nealy, Gannon Ritz, Alexis Nealy, and Ensign Grace Ritz. He delighted in their accomplishments and adventures, and his great-granddaughter, Alyeska Nealy, brought him immeasurable joy.

The first and lasting impression of Chuck was always the same: he looked out for others. A keen observer of people, quick with wit and warmth, it was a genuine pleasure to be in his company-whether in a personal conversation or a professional setting. I was fortunate to witness both.

Chuck's career reflected the highest standards of leadership and integrity. The role of 176TH Wing Vice Commander demands an exceptional blend of character, competence, and compassion-as do the positions of FAA Evaluator, commercial airline Captain, Airline Pilots Association representative, and airline leader. In all these roles, Chuck exemplified the principles he lived by: Leadership, Integrity, and Trust.

We were blessed to have Chuck in our lives and are left now with the sweet memories and moments we shared together.

Godspeed, my friend.

"To fly west, my friend, is a flight we all must take for a final check."
