**Obituary for Charles "Charlie" Martin Oakes** On January 31, 2026, the world lost a remarkable soul, Charles "Charlie" Martin Oakes, who left us in the embrace of love and cherished memories. Born on January 3, 1939, Charlie lived a life filled with laughter, kindness, and an unwavering spirit that influenced all who were fortunate enough to know him. Charlie dedicated over eight years to serving in the Coast Guard Reserves, instilling in his children and grandchildren a sense of duty and love for their country. He spent the remainder of his career as a life insurance salesman, a role he embraced with dedication, helping countless families secure their futures. An energetic and generous man, Charlie was known far and wide for his infectious sense of humor. A true master of dad jokes, he had a unique ability to bring smiles to people's faces, forging connections that transcended the ordinary. He never met a stranger; his warmth and genuine interest in others made everyone feel welcome in his presence. Charlie's spirit was intertwined with his passions. He devoted countless hours to serving at his local church, reflecting his profound faith and commitment to the community. A lover of golf, he enjoyed many sunny days on the course, and he cherished moments spent attending his granddaughter's volleyball games. His interests extended to reading, coloring, and traveling, embracing life's adventures with an open heart. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Oakes, and their three children: Kelly Tipton, Martin "Marty" Oakes, and Whitney Patterson. His legacy continues through his grandchildren-Danielle Trammell, Deveren Thomas, Lindsay King, Tanner Oakes, Raeanna Oakes, Hayden Oakes, and Jaelyn Oakes-as well as his many great-grandchildren, including Emery, Jordyn, Emily, Daphne, Korbyn, and Oliver, along with another great-grandson, James. Each of them carries a piece of Charlie's warmth and humor in their hearts. As we gather to remember Charlie, let us celebrate a life well-lived-a life defined by kindness, laughter, and an unyielding love for family and friends. His memory will forever inspire us to lead with generosity, to find joy in the simple moments, and to cherish the connections we make along life's journey. Charlie Oakes may have left this world, but his spirit will continue to brighten our lives and guide us forward.
