Charles Avon Owens, Sr. passed away on Monday, January 26,2026, at the age of 85. He was born on May 3, 1940, in Austin, Texas. Charles was the oldest of twelve children born to Willie Owens Sr. and Berline Washington-Owens. He was preceded in death by his parents; his three sisters, Shirley E. Owens Bunton, Beverly A. Owens-White, and Jan R. Owens-Brumfield; his brother, Willie Owens, Jr.; his son, Charles Avon Owens, Jr.; and his grandson, Jordan S. Owens.

Charles accepted Christ at an early age and was united with Olivet Baptist Church on November 5, 1985. He became deeply involved in church life, serving faithfully in the Deacons Ministry. He was also a leader in the Mens Ministry, a Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School teacher, and assisted in the Helping Hands Ministry.

Charles attended Austin public schools and graduated with honors from the former L. C. Anderson High School in 1959. He later attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work. He worked for Travis State School as a direct caretaker and went on to become a Social Worker at the same facility and retired after 40 years of service.

He had a passion for all operas, but his favorite opera was "The Daughter of the Regiment". He loved Visual Arts and Performing Arts and was very knowledgeable of both. He enjoyed reading and watching television shows about westerns, police investigative crime, and unsolved mysteries.

Charles leaves behind cherished memories with his loving wife, Gwendolyn Evans-Owens; his children: Allan F. Owens (Michelle, Pamela J. Owens-Johns (Bobby), Alfred S. Owens, Robert H. Owens (Mary, Justin T. Owens, Chyecaria Evans, and La Curtt Evans.

He is also survived by his siblings: Thomas

J. Owens, Sr: (Margaret), Samuel D. Owens, Sandra K. Owens-Bedford (Percy, St:), Isaac R. Owens (Cynthia), Rachel F. Owens-Johnson (Jimmie), Jimmie M. Owens, and Jessie L. Owens. He also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many loving relatives and friends.

Charles will be remembered for his faith, dedication to family, service to his church, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew and loved him.
