Born on August 11, 1963, in Austin, Texas, Monica had an indomitable spirit that was as expansive as the Texas plains. Her infectious laughter and empathetic nature made her a beacon of joy for her loved ones. Monica had a heart that was as big as the state she called home, and her love was as inviting as a warm Southern welcome. She was a puzzle master, whose love for solving them was only surpassed by her love for her baby dolls, presents, and the joy she found in flipping through her favorite magazines.

Monica was a loving daughter, a cherished family member, and a proud graduate of Rosedale elementary school, class of 1985. Her accomplishments were not measured in accolades, but in the genuine smiles she inspired and the laughter she shared. Her ever-present humor was a testament to her unique spirit. Monica was never employed, but her role was essential as the heart and soul of the group home Pilgrim Place, where she was not just a resident, but a beacon of love and joy.

Monica is survived by her loving mother, Jamesetta Holmes, and family member Capucina Walton, and sister Mitzi Atkins. She is preceded in death by her beloved father, Harold Pennick. Her legacy of laughter and love will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.

As Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Monica lived this truth, leaving an indelible impression of love and laughter in our hearts.
