Mr. James Everton Pennick (JoJo) was the son of the late James Nathan Pennick and the late Marion Jackson Pennick both of Philadelphia, Pa. where he was born. One brother, Jeffrey, preceded him in death.
James' early education was achieved in the Philadelphia School System including graduating from Edison High School in 1966. He later attended HBCU Texas Southern University in Houston, Tx. where he became a loyal member of the Groove Phi Groove Fraternity. After college he returned to Philadelphia and worked for the United States Postal Service for 10 yrs or more.
During this time he met Harriet Graves who at that time was attending Temple University Medical School and they eventually married in 1975. During this time James decided to attend McAllister's School of Mortuary Science in New York City commuting two hours each way daily from Phila. for 2 yrs. He received his degree in Mortuary Science and they had a son, named James Kendrick(JK) and Harriet graduated from Temple Medical School and a Pediatric Residency and then the family moved to Kilgore, Tx in 1980.
While in East Texas he had a Funeral Home and an Insurance business. After 7 years the family decided to move to a larger city in order to give their son more exposure and settled in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. While in Dallas he was an Ind Insurance Broker serving many clients. His wife during that time worked as a Pediatrician and also had her own Mary Kay business that he fully supported. Matter of fact, a lot of her success was because of his ongoing support and participation.
As a family, we believed in experiences, therefore we loved to travel. He and Harriet moved to several locations during their 50 plus years together.James and Harriet were blessed to live in Louisville, KY, Miami, FL and Las Vegas, Nevada building many wonderful relationships along the way. One relationship that he cherished dearly was his connection with young men and through the Job Corp in McKinney, TX and Shelbyville, KY he touched many lives.
James' love and support of his family and friends will have a lasting effect with unforgettable memories. We will forever cherish and remain grateful for having him as a part of our lives.
