Charles Sik Park, born on March 13, 1931, in Seoul, Korea, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 3, 2026, in Annandale, Virginia, after enduring a period of illness lasting approximately seven months. He was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing, which reflects the warmth and affection that characterized his life.

As the oldest son and the second of five siblings, Charles bore the responsibilities of leadership from a young age. His formative years were marked by the tumultuous backdrop of war, as he enlisted in the Korean Army as soon as age permitted. His dedication saw him travel to the United States, where he trained American soldiers at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, focusing on combined arms and tactics. After completing his tour, Charles returned to South Korea, his experience there shaping his future.

In pursuit of further education, Charles applied for and earned a scholarship through the Coca Cola Corporation, an opportunity that brought him back to the United States. He attended college in Texas, ultimately completing his bachelor’s degree at The University of Texas. It was during a summer job in Virginia that Charles met his future wife, Mary. Their union was celebrated on August 11, 1963, in Lanham, Maryland, officiated by a former college classmate of Charles.

For approximately three years, they resided in the District of Columbia before moving to Alexandria, Virginia. The couple welcomed their first child, Jennifer, into the world on June 26, 1967, followed by their son, Matthew, on March 11, 1977. In 1998, Charles and Mary found their home in Annandale, where they continued to nurture their family.

Throughout his career, Charles engaged in various professions, eventually becoming self-employed and operating a small transportation company. He was a passionate man, holding an unwavering loyalty to the Washington Redskins, enjoying deep sea fishing, and fostering a profound appreciation for reading and history. In his later years, Charles deepened his spirituality and became firmly rooted in his Christian faith, dedicating time daily to the reading of his Bible.

Charles leaves behind a loving family who will remember him fondly: his beloved wife, Mary B. Park; his daughter, Jennifer Soo Milburn, who is married to Robert Milburn, along with their daughter, Alexandra; and his son, Matthew Christopher Park, who is married to Kristen Park, along with their daughter, Hayley, and their son, Nathan; as well as a brother-in-law, George Buffkin. The family remembers him not only for his intellect and interests but also for his unwavering support and love.

Charles Sik Park's formidable spirit and legacy of resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His journey from Korea to the United States and his many accomplishments reflect a life well-lived, filled with dedication to family and cherished values.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 12:00 pm at Park Valley Church (4500 Waverly Farm Drive, Haymarket, VA, New Student Ministry Building).
