Charles "Chuck" Lawrence Pelo, 53, of Worden, Illinois, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025.

Born in Granite City, Illinois, to the late Charles and Patricia Pelo, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Brian (Rebecca) Lane. He is survived by his wife, Chi Pelo; his children, Damien (Sydney Bray) Kulash, Logan (Madison) Pelo and their son Theodore, Madilyn (Anthony) Troxell, Lily Pelo; and his sister, Annetta (John) Veres.

Chuck worked for many years as a steelworker at U.S. Steel in Granite City. In his 40s, after a furlough from the mill, he returned to college, earning awards for academic excellence. He later built a new career as a Geospatial Analyst with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in St. Louis, where he treasured the friendships he formed with his colleagues. He lived with a deep commitment to fairness and community, always speaking out for and honoring the value of all people.

He loved learning, history, maps, and all things J.R.R. Tolkien. He enjoyed spending quiet moments in nature with his loyal dog, Juno. He could make any ordinary moment feel extraordinary by drawing attention to the sound of cicadas, the warmth of sunlight on his face, or the glow of the moon through a cloudy haze. Weekends at farmers markets with his wife brought him simple joy, and he delighted in cooking for his family and friends. He enjoyed bow hunting and passionately supported the Staunton Bulldogs, Green Bay Packers, and St. Louis Cardinals.

Chuck was known for his thoughtful presence, quiet wisdom, and beautiful, toothy smile. His deep insight and quick wit could turn any moment into something profound. He will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, and the self-confidence that he nourished in everyone around him.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family asks that you honor him by having sunshine moments of your own, as often as you can.
